Donux has had a year of incredible growth and this has created the wonderful opportunity of welcoming new, talented designers into the agency.
We wanted to take a moment to sit down with Yasmine today and get to know her a little more. She started with us as an intern last summer and became a full-time employee before the end of 2022 and has been a tremendous asset to the company!
Hi Yasmine! What inspired you to pursue a career in design, and how did you get started in this field?
I approached design during my university studies when I attended the faculty of architecture. During my academic years, I approached the world of design in its various forms (interior, visual, communication) and they became areas that I deepened over time with great enthusiasm. After completing my studies I worked as an architect for a few years, but over time I understood that graphic, communication and digital design were more than just simple interests. This led me to embark on a new path in the UX/UI sector, which has always intrigued me, and so here I am.
What do you find most rewarding about working in the design industry?
What I like about working in design is being able to see how small choices can significantly change the use and benefits of certain products (both physical and digital). Above all, I like that it is a dynamic sector, full of news and changes (which you have to welcome - and that's not always easy 😂). Doing design is not just "drawing" but putting many pieces together and this often does not necessarily imply using Figma 🙂
How do you like to unwind outside of work, and do you have any hobbies or interests that you're particularly passionate about?
Over the last year I have learned to balance the time spent in and out of the house as I mainly work from home. One of the main activities that helps me disconnect is going out for a run/walk with my dog. In those hours I have no possibility or way to look at screens since the only thing to do is chase her around the park!
In addition to this, sports and reading are my favorite pastimes, although the sofa often seems to be the only solution to recover at the end of the day 😂
How do you like to collaborate with others on design projects, and what do you think are the benefits of working in a team?
At first I was a little scared of remote collaboration, since I had never had any experience of it. However, with time and the tools that Donux provided me, I learned to deal with this issue and better manage the moments of collaboration with my colleagues.
I find it very useful to discuss with team members at different times, from the brainstorming phase to the feedback phase. This also includes the "stuck" moments, in which even just a word from someone else can often help to move forward.
In Donux, slots have also been made available for feedback from any member of the team, in order to be able to deal with those who are not directly involved in the project and have more objective feedback when necessary.
Finally, what drew you to our agency, and what are you looking forward to most about working here?
Donux has been my springboard in this area, the opportunity to start doing this job 100%. I chose to start here because I immediately perceived the quality of the work done and the attention given to training and supporting all team members. I knew I would have had to put in a lot of effort right from the start, but after almost a year I'm very happy with the choice I made.
I know it will be a very intense journey, but Donux is providing me all the necessary tools to be able to grow and become autonomous in managing different projects. There is also the right focus on understanding which aspects of design I can become more specialised in. That's why I'm happy to try any kind of activity right now 😁
Thanks so much Yasmine, for your time today and all your hard work this past year 🥂
